Adirondack Guide, Caretaker, 90, Dies
Robert Kimpton, Sr., 90, a patient at the Saranac Lake General Hospital for one day, died yesterday. At the time of his death, he had been visiting a daughter, Mrs. Roy Hungerford of Paul Smiths.
Services are tentatively set for Sunday at the family home in Wippleville [sic] with burial to be in the Kimpton Cemetery.
Born on October 15, 1866, in Wippleville [sic], the son of Rodney and Laura Kimpton, he was a widower of the late Mary Decker Kimpton. Mr. Kimpton came to Paul Smiths in 1897 from the State of Washington where he had homesteaded several years.
He was an Adirondack guide and caretaker in the Paul Smiths-Saranac Lake area and was a caretaker at the D.P. Ross camp from 1932 to 1950 when be retired and moved to Wippleville.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Kimpton, Jr., and Roy Kimpton of Wippleville, [sic] three daughters, Mrs. Laura Hungerford of Paul Smiths, Mrs. Gladys Roes of Albany and Mrs. Edna Stokes of Wippleville, a sister Mrs. Harriet Todd of Syracuse, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
